TYPO3 Awards: Container Extension wins “Best TYPO3 Extension”

The new category “Best TYPO3 Extension” was presented for the first time at this year’s TYPO3 Awards. The winner embodies what makes TYPO3 great: technical clarity, editorial freedom, and a vibrant open-source culture. Achim Fritz from the b13 team developed the Container Extension, which was awarded the prize—and rightly so.

Arrange TYPO3 content more easily and in a more structured way

With the Container Extension, Achim created a way to organise content in a modular and visual manner without breaking the system’s logic. Editors can clearly group and structure content, while integrators retain complete control over markup and templates.

The extension works closely with the TYPO3 core without adding unnecessary complexity or abstraction layers. It simply uses what TYPO3 already provides in the best possible way.

TYPO3 DNA in extension form

Achim’s approach has always been pragmatic: focusing on clean, lightweight code, clear interfaces, and predictable core behaviour rather than creating another layout engine.
The result is an extension that feels like a natural part of TYPO3 itself, not an add-on.

This is why the Container Extension is now widely used across the community—it solves a real problem without creating new ones.

Open source with heart!

If you know Achim, you know he doesn’t talk much about open source (or at all)—he lives it. He writes code, documents features, reviews pull requests, answers questions on the TYPO3 Slack channel, and regularly contributes to the core. Within the community, he’s affectionately known as the “Container Guy”, a nickname that reflects the deep ties between his work and TYPO3 itself.

The Container Extension is just one example of his ongoing commitment over the years. This award is not only recognition of a piece of software, but also a tribute to his dedication, technical excellence, and community spirit.

A well-deserved moment!

Here at b13, we are proud to have Achim on our team!
And we are even prouder that his work improves so many TYPO3 projects around the world.

Congratulations, Achim!
And a big thank you to the TYPO3 community for showing, once again, that open source doesn’t just work—it inspires.
