Shaping the Future: b13 in 2026

We are looking forward to 2026 with great anticipation. TYPO3 v14 is just around the corner, and we are active in many community formats. We are also consciously investing time in contributions, exchanges and nurturing young talent. We are convinced that b13 will flourish if TYPO3 remains a robust and sustainable system.

The what: TYPO3 v14 LTS, and we are right in the middle of it

The significant milestone in 2026 is the release of TYPO3 v14 LTS on 21 April.
For us at b13, this means that some of our colleagues are working on features that will be evident in everyday work. At b13, we are heavily involved in developing the new, modern backend. This is a key area for many of our editors and customers, as it underpins their daily work.

We are also delivering new features while doing TYPO3 housekeeping, i.e., tidying up, stabilising, and improving structures. We have also designed and developed the first default theme for v14, providing a solution for using TYPO3 immediately after installation. We will report on some of these developments separately here over the next few months.

The who: The community needs fresh ideas

New talent doesn’t just appear out of thin air. A system like TYPO3 urgently needs young people to contribute their ideas and skills to the community. That's why the surf camp on Fuerteventura in 2026 is not a holiday for us and is certainly not a business venture for b13. It's community work. Benni and Jochen will be there as mentors, guiding junior developers across Europe working on a specific TYPO3 project. The goal is to familiarise them with TYPO3 and help them become part of the TYPO3 community. This is so important to us that we are granting Benni and Jochen time off for it—a clear commitment to TYPO3’s future.

The where: We are travelling in 2026, where exchange really happens

For us, events are not an end in themselves. Interesting things rarely happen on stage; they often happen afterwards, when people start discussing solutions and ideas.
In 2026, we will be attending a variety of events focusing on TYPO3, content management, open source, user experience (UX) and product development.

On the TYPO3 side, these are:

In addition, there is CloudFest Hackathon and CloudFest in Rust. And we deliberately look beyond TYPO3 – also as speakers:

If you see us at an event in 2026, please come and talk to us! We relish the opportunity to engage in conversation, discuss questions and share experiences. We firmly believe that knowledge gained from projects and the community is important, particularly when shared openly.

The reason: Because we believe in TYPO3 and want the system to improve

You could file all this away under 'community programme'. For us, however, it's the other way around: we do this because we believe in TYPO3. We have worked with TYPO3 for years and recognise its strengths. We also know that an open-source project can only remain strong if enough people are willing to take responsibility. This applies to the code, communication and knowledge transfer. That's why we invest time. We contribute because we want TYPO3 to improve, not just for our own projects, but for everyone who uses it.

We look beyond the horizon because a CMS does not exist in isolation, and being able to compare it with other systems helps us to make the right decisions. We also give presentations at TYPO3 events because systems are not just made up of code. They improve when people understand them better, including concepts, patterns, upgrade paths, typical errors and how to ensure they remain competitive in the future.

In addition: Products and what comes after the LTS release

In addition to community and core topics, b13 launched the products topic in 2025. This is not just because products look good on a slide, but because they solve specific problems that we have encountered repeatedly in projects and in everyday TYPO3 use. If you are interested, take a look at our products. This is the fastest way to understand our approach and the features we consider useful.

With v14 LTS, a new foundation is being created that can be built upon. After the LTS release, we are therefore planning further useful TYPO3 extensions that complement v14 neatly without distorting the system: pragmatic, maintainable and as close to the core idea as possible.

Next: Let's make the most of 2026, together

If you see us in 2026, come and talk to us! We can help with v14 questions, backend issues, upgrade plans, relaunch ideas and UX problems. Or you can simply say, ‘We want to improve our setup, but we're not sure how to go about it yet.’ That's a good start! We're here to help with everything else.
