# What’s New in TYPO3 v14?

What’s New for Editors in TYPO3 v14.3 LTS
==========================================

Thanks to the most significant user interface update since 2014, TYPO3 v14 offers a noticeably improved editing experience along with practical tools for marketing campaigns. With a strong focus on usability and simplified onboarding, this release may be the most well-rounded version yet, giving backend users more flexibility to manage content in a way that best suits their workflow.

Improved Usability and Editorial Workflows
--------------------------------------------

TYPO3 v14 improves everyday editorial work by making core backend functions clearer, more flexible, and more efficient. From navigation and interface structure to editing and multilingual workflows, the focus is on reducing friction and improving consistency across all tasks.

### Increased Clarity: New Module Names and Icons

The reorganized module menu on the left contains the same modules as before, but with simpler names that describe their purpose more accurately. The previous module descriptors “Pages”, “Web”, and “Filelist” are now called “Layout”, “Preview”, and “Media”, and come with a fresh set of custom icons.

There is also a significant update to the “Redirects” module, now called “Link Management”, which can also be found in the module menu on the left. If you are unable to see it, you may need to ask your administrator to activate it. The potential of this central hub for link management—and its implications for marketing professionals—is covered further below.

### More Customization: Three New Backend Themes

While the Backend interface style is set to “Fresh” by default, you can also change it to “Classic”, or “Modern” if you prefer a classy orange or a distinguished grey to purple. All three new backend themes support light and dark mode.

You can try this out by heading to your profile in the top right corner, navigating to user settings, and selecting your preferred option from the “Theme” dropdown under “Backend appearance.” Don’t forget to hit save to update it.

What may seem like a small change can have a noticeable impact on your everyday work—just like the new dashboard widgets, which you can explore and customize yourself.

### Greater Control: Breadcrumb and Context-Aware Editing

The new **breadcrumb**—a trail of your navigation—shows you exactly where you are in the editing process, helping you stay oriented within the page tree. It is part of the improved DocHeader, which now provides a more consistent experience across modules.

Another update that gives you more control while also speeding up your editing process is the **context-aware editing** flyout. If you have ever found yourself waiting for a new window to load after clicking “Edit page properties,” you will appreciate this change. TYPO3 v14 no longer requires opening a separate window—instead, an overlay appears on the right, allowing you to quickly make changes and continue with your work.

### Improved Consistency at Page Creation: Page Creation Wizard

A feature that helps you prevent errors while maintaining a consistent workflow truly empowers editors. A system wizard, guides you step by step through the page creation process so no mandatory fields are missed—saving time on corrections later on.

The new Page Creation Wizard highlights TYPO3 v14’s move toward a more user-centric backend, with many more features following the same approach, as you will see below.

### Closer Correspondence Across Languages: Translation Wizard

If you regularly create new language versions of a page or translate existing content, your multilingual sites are about to become more consistent thanks to a simplified, guided workflow.

Instead of manually copying and translating each content element, the Translation Wizard walks you through the process step by step, allowing you to choose which elements you want to translate.

This improved feature in TYPO3 v14 helps you save time through bulk translations and reduce missed content, which the wizard conveniently highlights. You may also have noticed the Language Selector in the top right corner, which allows you to toggle between languages more easily.

Simplified Marketing Campaigns & Onboarding
-----------------------------------------------

TYPO3 v14 now supports campaigns by providing useful everyday features within the Link Management module. Camino, a ready-to-use frontend foundation assists onboarding and allows teams to move from idea to execution more quickly.

### Broader Coverage: QR Codes

If you are looking to launch effective, long-lasting, or reusable campaigns, this feature will be especially relevant. While QR codes have many possible applications, one of the biggest advantages in TYPO3 v14 is the broader reach they enable for your brand.

You can now create QR codes and download them as SVG or PNGs directly within the link management module. Unlike external QR code generators, however, you can change the target of your QR code without having to regenerate it.

Imagine running a campaign or distributing printed materials, only to realize that the QR code needs to point to a different landing page. With TYPO3 v14, there is no need to reprint or redesign—you can simply update the destination. This not only reduces costs but also avoids negative spillover effects, such as users encountering outdated links or “404 Page not found” errors.

### Greater Brand Credibility: URL Shortening

Also within the Link Management module, you will find the new “Shortlinks” feature. As you know, long URLs on social media or other marketing channels can appear unprofessional—but TYPO3 now provides a solution.

Version 14 now includes a built-in URL shortener, allowing you to create clean links without relying on external providers such as “tinyurl.” This ensures your brand’s credibility while giving you full control over your links.

### Lower Complexity: Camino Standard Theme

In addition to the backend improvements, TYPO3 v14 introduces “Camino”—the first ever frontend theme in four different colours, designed to help you get small websites up and running quickly. Camino was built to lower the entrance barrier for new TYPO3 users but it also supports existing users to start a new site easily.
